Cause a Ruckus!
There’s a little saying that I’ve picked up in my travels, and it goes, “If it’s free, it’s for me!”
Truer words were never spoken. It’s no lie that we all enjoy free stuff, and it’s even better if it’s free stuff that we actually want, unlike those awful sweaters your eccentric aunt gives on Christmas. So, what if I let you in on a little secret on how to get free music (legally), for…well….free?
Enter: Ruckus. A music/video download site geared towards college students with unlimited, free music downloads from thousands of artists and composers. Not only that, but download speeds are blazing fast (and secure! No viruses/spyware, ala Kazaa or Limewire), with entire albums downloading in just minutes (depending on your internet connection). To put it bluntly, it rawks something fierce.
However! (Yes, there is a “however.”) To use this service, you need to be a college student with a .edu email address. If you’re not in school, well…you must certainly must drool….over how much free music you’re missing! ::zing!::
With all this free music whoring itself out for download, the music industry would throw a conniption fit, what with all the piracy going around and whatnot. Ruckus circumvents this by licensing all its music, which is both a good and bad thing. The good is that the music remains free. The bad is that you can’t burn them to CD’s, because that’d easily defeat the purpose of licensing the tracks. However, there are certain MP3 players that you can sync your music to, but sadly, iPod isn’t one of them. Boo-urns.
Now, given that glaring obstacle, it’s still free music! I downloaded roughly 3 gigs of music in less than an hour, and still counting, picking up all the albums I ever wanted. It’s also nice to check out new stuff without committing to buying the album. I’m actually planning on purchasing one of the listed compatible MP3 players so I can actually take this music with me. If you figure that all the music you can potentially download for FREE on a $300 music device versus paying for each album, you really do save on the long run.
So, if you’re a college student or have a .edu email account, check it out, and cause a Ruckus!
