Young writer gives “thumbs-up” to teen pregnency.

Juno, probably one of the better sleeper hits this winter, is a heart-warming(ish) story about an unusual 16 year-old pseudo punk rock chick named Juno [Ellen Page], and her misadventure of getting pregnant by semi-boyfriend Paul Bleeker [Michael Cera].
This film takes a lighthearted and comical approach to the challenges of being a pregnant teen, and offers a different perspective on the topic in general. Instead of being a stressful tug on the heartstrings, Juno turns out to be a wonderful tale of misled youth and young love.
While the film generates many a laugh from snappy one-liners, a lot of the dialog is unnecessarily quirky, and almost seems forced at times. I mean, who says “wizard”, anyways? Even the choice of wardrobe (mostly from Juno) provokes a raised eyebrow, although this was probably done to try and “reveal” more of Juno’s character without acting. But none if this detracts from the movie, and if anything adds more charm to the film.
Speaking of acting, the cast does an outstanding job, most notably from Ellen Page. She and her supporting cast creates a believable and engaging situation that can be enjoyed many times over. The chemistry is there, and all the actors seem to interact with each other very well.
All in all, this movie charmed the living daylights out of me. Go see it!
